Marangu Route- 6 Days on the Mountain

Day 1 – Arrival
Arrival at the Kilimanjaro Airport. There you can buy your visa (50 US per person or 100 US per person for American citizens), pick up your luggage and go through the customs. Our driver is already waiting for you and will drive you to Arusha. The transfer take one hour.

Day 2 – Start at the Marangu Route- Mandara Hut
After the breakfast you are going to drive to the Marangu Gate (1870m). After a short briefing you are going to start your climb to Mandara Hut (2743m). For this distance you need about 4 hours. On the way up, you are going to have a picnic lunch. Dinner and accommodation will be at the Mandara Hut.

Day 3 – Horombo Hut
After breakfast you are going to start with the tour guides from Mandara Hut upwards to the Horombo Hut (3720m). For today’s tour you need approximately 3 hours. On the way you are going to have picnic lunch. Dinner and accommodation will be at the Horombo Hut.

Day 4 – Acclimatization day
Today you are going to have a tour upwards to the zebra rock and you are going to return to Horombo Hut. This will help you to get used to the height and to avoid high altitude sickness. The chances to reach the peak are increasing. On the way you are going to have a picnic lunch again. Dinner will be served at the Horombo Hut.

Day 5 – Kibo Hut
From the Horomobo Hut you are going to hike after breakfast over the sattle to the Kibo Hut (4730m). It will take approximately 5 hours. On the way you are going to have a picnic lunch again. Dinner and accommodation will be at the Kibo Hut.

Day 6 – Peak day- Horombo Hut
Around midnight you are going to have a light breakfast and start towards the Gillman’s Point (5680m). It takes approximately 5 hours. From there it is only one hour to go to on the Uhuru peak on 5895m above sea level. Experience a memorable sunrise and afterwards get ready for the descend. You are going to hike back to Kibo Hut, recover at a lunch and go further down to Horombo Hut. Dinner and accommodation will be at Horombo Hut.

Day 7 – Climb-Down
After breakfast you are going down to Marangu Gate. Picnic lunch on the way down. At the Gate you are going to receive a certificate for the (hopefully) successful climb of the highest mountain in Africa. Afterwards our driver will drive you back to the hotel.
